Collections | Tapping into the Trends

Last week, the Evening Standard's life-coach, Dan Rookwood preached his guidance for key SS14 trends...

"Jackets, we’re looking at unstructured blazers, varsity jackets and bombers. Pattern-wise, the easy one is big horizontal stripes (T-shirts, knitwear); more challenging is floral print — think toned-down Hawaiian. Camo is still conspicuous. Judicious use of primary colour — blue, red, yellow and green — is in." - Dan Rookwood, ES Magazine, 28th March 2014.

Luckily for you guys, we think we've got it covered. Here's how you can subtly tap into this summer's trends, the R&E way...

The Unstructured Blazer

Our Artisan Jacket was so well received last year that we’ve reinvented it with a more formal cut for summer to make it a truly great British blazer.

This outstanding jacket is constructed from European made herringbone weave cotton and tailored for a slim, modern fit. Washed down for a relaxed, vintage look, it has two patch pockets, adjustable cuffs and subtle R&E logo metal bar buttons. Lightweight and versatile; the perfect summer jacket!

Floral Print

Perhaps the most unusual of our research finds is a fragment of wallpaper, delicately salvaged from the wall of a German dugout on 6 February 1917 near Ectrees. This charming floral print, stored in the IWM archives, has been revived to adorn key pieces from our Spring/Summer season.

In true Realm & Empire style, no detail goes unnoticed and what was originally a handwritten inscription detailing its place of origin has been subtly transformed to bear our signature, ‘Property of Great Britain’ strap line.

Camo Print

In an unpublished letter sent to The Times on 20 October 1939, artist David Bomberg wrote, "In a war fought for freedom and progressive culture, the artist surely has a vital role to play. The spiritual and cultural need that art alone can satisfy is greater now than in peace time."

It was the fervour with which early twentieth century artists strove to present their ideas and notions which inspired our ‘LetteR design. Revisiting vorticist techniques, the Realm & Empire creative team use bold graphics and abstract patterns; R for Realm & Empire, proudly emblazoned in our unique camouflage print.

Primary Colours

With a clean and simple Realm & Empire emblems on the chest, take your pick from the different primary colour options for this season's ketchup Zip Through Hoodie, classic Raglan Sweaters in peacoat, or the Long Range Desert Print Sweater in saffron.
