Since its launch in 2012, London Collections: Men has established itself as one of the most important dates on the global fashion calendar. It's a chance for the realm of menswear to come together to celebrate the creative and commercial importance of British brands as well as the rich cultural landscape that contributes to the inspiration and success of the sector. With Day 1 kicking off with Topman Design this afternoon, we’ve been asking ourselves what is it exactly that makes British style so unique?
For us, it’s the faultless way that we combine the old with the new. We have the Savile Row tailors who continue to practise and refine traditional craftsmanship developed over many years, outputting timeless pieces that defy the fickleness of fashion. Then there’s the plethora of amazing young brands emerging that use British heritage as a reference point to create innovative, new designs and ideas.
At Realm & Empire, this charming patriotism is something we hold in high regard. It's weaved throughout our process and fuels our desire to pay tribute to the most admirable aspects of ‘Britishness’ in everything that we do. Which is why, each season we aim to source and work with the very Best of British.
Created in a Scottish Mill in 1805, the famous three-quarter length wool coat quickly became a timeless, British classic, and was issued to all officers in the British Army & Royal Flying Corps during the First World War. The Realm & Empire Topcoat is exquisitely crafted from British Wool Tweed fabric manufactured in Huddersfield, England. A luxurious deep red jacquard print lining and real horn buttons complete the sharp tailoring to perfection for any gentleman’s winter wardrobe.
Our slim leg Officer Trousers take inspiration from traditional WW1 paddelators. Manufactured in Huddersfield, England, the trousers are crafted from British Wool fabric and half lined with a luxurious deep red jacquard print. Perfect for a super polished look.
All of our knitwear is designed in our Nottingham studio and manufactured right here in the Midlands, a part of the country traditionally associated with knitwear production.
For each Realm & Empire collection, initial inspiration is sought from details found in the field trips to IWM's garment and print archives. It’s a unique collaboration that sees a store of such overwhelming historical importance creatively interpreted by our own team into contemporary, stylish menswear collections.
