The ghost patrol was the small, highly skilled assembly who performed clandestine reconnaissance and raiding missions during the North Africa campaign.
Formed in Egypt, June 1940, the group comprised of no more than 350 volunteers drawn from British and Commonwealth regiments.
The LRDG patrolled the desert in specially equipped Chevrolet trucks, gathering intelligence or participating in special operations. Its founder, Brigadier Ralph Bagnold, was a pre-war pioneer of desert exploration, who happened to know a thing or two about operating vehicles in tricky desert terrain. Sand mats, sand channels and sun compass were just a few of the modifications that were made to the trucks.
Part of the R&E active training collection, this zip-thru raglan-sleeved Ghost Patrol jacket taps into the patrol's ingenuity and diligent attention to detail.
Constructed from a lightweight and breathable performance fabric with a drawstring hood, this jacket is ideal for combatting the sporadic summer showers, whilst the flattering ‘boxy’ fit, means that it makes the perfect layering pieces as the weather turns colder.
Other features include two over-sized front pockets with side entrance and durable, real-leather toggles and discreet ‘ghost patrol’ stitch detailing.
Here's a jacket that offers functionality and agility for both every day and those more adventurous, outdoor pursuits.
