Michigan’s third and final exhibition game in Europe was cut short by a power failure in the gym.
A “huge, unexpected storm” in Mykonos, Greece, caused electricity failures across the island, according to a spokesperson for AO Mykonou, the team Michigan played on Wednesday (Aug. 24).
The teams were able to play two 10-minute quarters. Michigan trailed 27-24 after the first but led 49-38 after the second. That’s when power was lost and the game was called — a mutual decision according to the spokesperson.
Power was eventually restored enough for Michigan to use the court to practice for a bit.

(Update: A Michigan spokesperson reported that the teams agreed to play just two quarters “after Mykonos suffered training injuries.” The report noted that redshirt freshman Will Tschetter led the Wolverines with nine points and that Dug McDaniel and Isaiah Barnes scored seven each.)
Michigan split its first two games of the trip, losing in Paris and winning in Athens. All games were against professional teams.
AO Mykonou’s social media feed had great things to say about the Wolverines before and after the competition.
“A lifetime experience for us, today’s exhibition friendly game with one of the greatest University Basketball teams, @umichbball.” (Never mind that the account inadvertently referred to Michigan as “Michigan State”.)
“The way they respect the game and their organization is a true inspiration.”
